Cuir de Cordoue Baroque Mirror is a masterpiece of leather furnishing. The mirror is created by the professional hands of master artisans delivering the highest quality Cuir de Cordoue furniture.
Perfectly matching antique interiors, the mirror is made with the ancient Cuir de Cordoue technique - whereby the lambskin leather is naturally tanned, embossed, gilded and painted through a completely laborious handmade artisan process. Our expert artisan only works with selected high quality leather and traditional coloring, and the gilding of the leather can be made of gold, silver or copper leaf. Due to the fact that every piece is handmade, colors and embossing can be completely customized on request - the end result is a unique and personalized work of art that will live through generations. The great perfection of this leather, characterized by its flexibility, softness, resistance and durability, represents the art, beauty, and greatness of authentic luxury.
The history of Cuir de Cordoue, cordwain, cordovan, goudleer or so-called gold leather technique:
Cuir de Cordoue originated from North Africa and was introduced to Spain during the 8th century. The Moors made of Córdoba (Spain) the center of Cuir de Cordoue production, which soon became famous all around Europe since the 11th century. In the 15th century, the technique reached Venice (Italy) and Flanders (Low Countries), and from the 16th century France, all centers where Cuir de Cordoue was widely handicraft and diverse examples still remain in castles and palaces. Cuir de Cordoue was used to upholster the interiors of luxurious rooms, as well as for altar fronts and fine furniture lined with gorgeous Cuir de Cordoue.
