The original marble sculpture was also know as Allegrains Venus.
Also known as Bather, the original Venus at the bath statue was Commissioned in 1756 and completed in 1767.
The concept was loosely derived from a work by Giambologna.
It was highly praised when the statue of Venus at the bath was shown at the 1767 Salon, and Louis XV offered it to his mistress, Madame Du Barry, who placed it in the park of her home, the Chateau de Louveciennes, France.
