The identity of this young woman, for many years unknown, has finally been identified as one of the lovers of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan. This is Cecilia Gallerani, who followed Ginevra de' Benci when she was married. The young woman is portrayed with an ermine in her arms. The portrait was so retouched in later times that it came to be doubted of the involvement of Leonardo in the same one. To be noted is the disproportion between the hand and the face of the lady, a stylized and elegant hand that accentuates the majestic appearance of the model. Inspired by this masterpiece of Leonardo, the artisan emphasizes the background with black wood whereby the beauty of the depicted lady is enhanced.
