Our Frieze of Archers Ceramic Relief is a wonderful mural decoration made of baked clay with a ceramic finish.
This masterpiece is inspired by a fragment of molded and glazed bricks of the royal palace of Darius I. in Susa, of the V century BC. The relief represents an archer from 'The Immortals'.
"The Immortals also known as the Persian Immortals or Persian Warriors was the name given by Herodotus to an elite heavy infantry unit of 10,000 soldiers in the army of the Achaemenid Empire. This force performed the dual roles of both Imperial Guard and standing army. The force consisted mainly of Persians, but also included other Iranian peoples such as Medes and Elamites. Essential questions regarding the unit remain unanswered, because authentic sources are missing."
Darius I. - The Great
"Darius I was the third king of the Persian Achaemenid Empire. Also called Darius the Great, he ruled the empire at its peak, when it included much of West Asia, the Caucasus, parts of the Balkans (Thrace-Macedonia and Paeonia), most of the Black Sea coastal regions, parts of the North Caucasus, Central Asia, as far as the Indus Valley in the far east, and portions of north and northeast Africa including Egypt, eastern Libya and coastal Sudan."
This product if desired can be ordered mounted on an iron structure.
