The first inspired by the Antinous bust of Hadrian's villa (c. 130-138 AD) displayed now in the Fitzwilliam museum in Cambridge, England, and the second inspired by an Ariadne bust created by neoclassical artist Bertel Thorvaldsen (c. 1805-1810).

  Clerici specialised in reproducing famous antique sculptures, working from his studio in Rome, and his work was in great demand.
