      • Diana Chasseresse bust, reduction after the slightly over lifesize ancient statue located in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The original goddess Diana statue is a Roman copy (1st to 2nd Century AD) of a Greek bronze original attributed to Leochares, circa 325 BC.

The goddess Diana was the daughter of Zeus & Leto, twin sister of Apollo.

In Roman mythology, Diana was not only the goddess of the hunt, but of the moon, and nature being associated with wild animals and woodland, and having the power to talk to and control animals. She is guardian of springs and streams, and protector of wild animals, also known as goddess of fertility, it is believed she grants safe & easy childbirth, to all who recognize her.

She was eventually equated with the Greek goddess Artemis, though she had an independent origin in Italy. Diana was worshipped in ancient Roman religion and is revered in Roman Neopaganism and Stregheria. Diana was known to be the virgin goddess of childbirth and women. She was one of the three maiden goddesses, along with Minerva and Vesta, who swore never to marry.

The original is owned and housed in the Vatican, Rome.

This bust makes a great pair when twinned with the bust of Apollo Large (reference number:SCRO4401010) as you can see on the third picture.
