The sculpture is thought to be made by the Greek sculptor, Alexandros of Antioch and believed to depict Aphrodite (or Venus in Roman mythology), the goddess of love, fertility and beauty. The statue of Venus de Milo was named after the Greek island, Milos, where it had been found.
