Ajax bust mount on a large base, reproduction after the antique carved by sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Italy, ca.1660.
Ajax is one of the most famous Greek heroes from the Iliad, the son of King Telamon and Periboea, and the half-brother of the Trojan hero Teucer. He was the founder of Salamis and Cyprus, and as great warrior hero of the Trojan War, he was also known as "Ajax the Great".
Our Ajax bust is inspired by the original created by Bernini. Looted once by Napoleon Bonaparte, the statue now belongs to the Vatican sculpture collection.
