The Centaur Mosaic is one of our wide collection of Mythological Mosaics. This mosaic illustrates a Centaur pulling back his bow.
Centaur
A centaur, or occasionally hippocentaur, is a mythological creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse. The centaurs were usually said to have been born of Ixion and Nephele. Centaurs were said to have inhabited the region of Magnesia and Mount Pelion in Thessaly, the Foloi oak forest in Elis, and the Malean peninsula in southern Laconia. Centaurs subsequently featured in Roman mythology, and were familiar figures in the medieval bestiary. They remain a staple of modern fantastic literature.
This masterpiece is an entirely handmade mosaic reproduction created using the techniques of ancient romans called "Opus tessellatum", cubic stones tiles mosaic. During its manufacture 8 mm stone and natural marble tiles are used, all together being fixed on mortar with a metallic structure.
This mosaic can be installed on both wall and floor. -
