Our white marble vase with centaurs is a reproduction of a 50 BC original found cut half and without base. Instead of the usual bacchic scenery, the reliefs of this marble vase are depicting a fight with centaurs, probably featuring the famous battle of Lapiths and Centaurs of the Greek mythology. The relief shows the fight that took place due to the drunken centaurs, unused to wine, during the wedding of Pirithous. This mythological battle became a symbol of the interior struggle between civilized and wild behavior, made concrete in the Lapiths' understanding of the right usage of god-given wine, which must be mixed with water and drunk not in excess. The Greek sculptors of the school of Pheidias conceived this battle of the Lapiths and Centaurs as a struggle between mankind and mischievous monsters, a symbol of the great conflict between the civilized Greeks and the barbarians.
Our large size sculptures are produced by a unique and proprietary dry casting process. Over 90% of the finished sculpture is natural marble which gives it a look and feel of natural marble. The sculpture is not completely solid in order to reduce cost and weight, with a strong solid thickness suitable for indoor and outdoor. They are finished and patinated by hand.
